PEPs and ISAs

Havelock Hunter are authorised PEP and ISA Managers and our service ensures that your investment remains compliant with current legislation.   As well as providing this service to individuals we are very happy to offer complete PEP and ISA administration facilities to institutions who would rather let someone else look after the regulation and reporting functions.

What are PEPs & ISAs?

PEPs and ISAs provide a tax-efficient wrapper into which clients can invest.  Most types of investment are allowed under the Inland Revenue rules, although there are certain restrictions relating to some exchanges and countries, of which Havelock Hunter Stockbrokers Ltd will make you aware when investing.

When PEPs (Personal Equity Plans) were first introduced by the government in 1987, investors were able to contribute to the scheme and enjoyed both income and capital gains tax advantages.  Originally, all tax on dividends could be reclaimed and any profits were free of Capital Gains Tax.  The PEP scheme was closed to new investment in 1999, with the introduction of a new scheme called ISAs (Individual Savings Accounts). Although a series of rule changes means that tax credits on dividends are no longer able to be reclaimed in PEPs and ISAs, both schemes still offer tax benefits to investors.

  • All profits on investments are still free from Capital Gains Tax
  • Interest received on Gilts, Corporate Bonds and PIBS (Permanent Interest Bearing Shares) is still paid gross
  • Higher rate tax payers can avoid paying tax at the higher rate on dividend income received in their PEP and ISA accounts
  • Details of investments held in PEP and ISA accounts do not have to be included in annual tax returns

Havelock Hunter Stockbrokers Ltd is happy to manage new ISAs for clients and will transfer both PEPs and ISAs from existing plan managers at no charge.
